1 | Any published song by a Canadian composer listed in the current Canadian Contemporary Showcase syllabus, the R.C.M. syllabus, Conservatory Canada syllabus, Canadian Music Showcase syllabus or Canadian National Conservatory of Music syllabus. It is not required for the piece to be in the above-mentioned syllabi. |
2 | This category promotes the songs of Canadian composers and provides a forum for new works that are unpublished. A copy of the original song (manuscript) must be submitted with the application for approval by the festival committee. Please email to newmarketlcmusicfestival@gmail.com. |

16 | Competitor’s choice unless otherwise indicated. Class space will be limited. . The selection must be a piece not performed by the participant in any other class in the festival. A performance time limit of four minutes is strongly recommended. This is a non-competitive class and is open to the public. The adjudicator will work with each participant individually. |
17 | Must not be “Pop”. No previous participation in a competitive music festival. Scheduled for Monday Sessions. |

SENIOR VOCAL SCHOLARSHIP CLASS
The Newmarket Lioness Club has generously established the Senior Vocal Scholarship Class for a participant who best presents their chosen programme as described in the section below. The award is currently valued at $500.00.
The adjudicator determines the winner of the award and the decision is final. A minimum mark of 85 on overall adjudication.
ELIGIBILITY
- Previous winners may not compete again for this scholarship.
- RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT. The participant must be a resident of Regional Municipality of York and the Town of Bradford/West Gwillimbury or the participant’s teacher must have a studio in the Regional Municipality of York and the Town of Bradford/West Gwillimbury.
PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS:
- Competitor’s own choice unless otherwise indicated.
- Pieces chosen must be from a minimum of Level 10 on a current conservatory list.
- Pieces must be performed from memory.
- Programme length is not to exceed twenty minutes.
- Balance of program will be considered.
- Program must include three different foreign language pieces.
- Program must also include:
- An aria from an opera or Oratorio in original language and key (with accompanying recitative where applicable).
- A contemporary original work by a Canadian composer.The adjudicator will provide a sight-singing piece for the competition.
- The adjudicator will provide a sight-singing piece for the competition.
- Each candidate must also answer a Viva Voce question asked by the adjudicator.
